Scripture Union Daily Guide 21 December 2025 Outline
Israel’s ancestry hail from Jacob who later became Israel after he wrestled with God. He was full of deceit and had a desire to have his own way even before he was born (See Genesis 25:21-26). This sense of deceit and lies was seen in everything his descendants did, but like Jacob, though he was full of deceit, he wrestled with God, turned from his sin, and received God’s blessing (Genesis 32:24-30).
Hosea is now telling the Israelites in Hosea 11:6 that they should act like their forefather. They must return to their God and turn from their evil ways. Only then will they receive God’s blessings.
But again, what did Israel do instead? They turned to fraudulent business, using dishonest scale that God deeply hates (Hosea 12:7, compare Deuteronomy 25:13-16). Having become wealthy, they boasted of their riches. They consider their ‘success’ justifies their evil business practice (Hosea 12:8).
Are we any different today? How many businessmen and women, politicians, and civil servants suddenly become very rich by dubious means? Our society is so degenerate that we applaud these dubious men and women. Why? It is a fashionable iniquity; it appears normal; everybody is doing it.
The people of God had made Him angry through their rebellion and sinful life. Now they were about to reap what they had sown (Hosea 12:12-14). We will do well to learn from their error. However long it takes, God will surely punish the wicked.

LORD, WE COME BEFORE THEE NOW
1. Lord, we come before Thee now,
At Thy feet we humbly bow;
Oh, do not our suit disdain!
Shall we seek Thee, Lord, in vain?
In Thy temple, lo, we wait,
Knocking at Thy mercy’s gate;
Now let all Thy chosen race
See with joy Thy blessèd face.
2. Oh, that we might lift our eyes!
Oh, that our poor hearts would rise
To the throne of grace above
And enjoy the sweets of love!
Lord, on Thee our souls depend;
In compassion now descend,
Fill our hearts with Thy rich grace,
Tune our lips to sing Thy praise.
3. Savior, wilt Thou not appear?
Thou hast often met us here;
Blessèd Master, don’t dismiss
Us without a kiss of peace.
Take away the veil of sin;
Shed Thy glory, Lord, within;
Give us double for our shame;
Let our portion be the Lamb.
4. In Thine own appointed way
Now we seek Thee, here we stay.
Lord, we know not how to go
Till a blessing Thou bestow.
Send some message from Thy W
ord That may joy and peace afford;
Let Thy Spirit now impart
Full salvation to each heart.
Closing Prayer
Help me, Lord, to live right so I do not make you angry and face your judgment.
